Closing out our in-kind work at Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County… As part of our joint effort, Sam Rammaha Painting Co. employees, BEHR PRO painting contractors, and KDC skilled laborers worked inside the food bank's distribution center to renew the interior walls and floor striping throughout the premises. For the second phase of our in-kind work at Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, Stucco Concepts came on-site to remove old, loose stucco on the exterior of the distribution center. They then applied a sealer and adhesive to bond new stucco and repair the area. For the first phase of our in-kind work at Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, the team restored the area next to Second Harvest’s bioretention basin behind their distribution warehouse. To achieve the restoration, we removed the existing asphalt and concrete where the water was ponding, and re-worked the v-gutter and asphalt so water could properly drain into the basin. A BIG thank you to Beach Paving for contributing their time and services in helping us remove the old asphalt with a skid steer and compacting the new asphalt with a roller. #inthecommunity #kdcconnected #concrete #asphaltpaving #community #teamwork

In April, KDC partnered with Sam Rammaha Painting, BEHR PRO painting contractors, Stucco Concepts, and Beach Paving to perform in-kind construction services for Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Second Harvest is a non-profit organization that provides food to children, college students, seniors, working families and individuals, and their community partners across Orange County. Second Harvest provides food for children through more than 65 elementary, middle, and high schools, community centers, their Kids Café afterschool and summer program, and permanent and mobile school pantries. Through their College Pantry Program, they provide access to nutritious food to 14 college campuses throughout California. Second Harvest also delivers food to low-income senior apartment complexes and senior centers through their Senior Grocery Program. In FY21, Second Harvest distributed almost 60 million pounds of food through their network of more than 250 community partner locations, to an average of 490,000 individuals each month. Their partners include houses of worship, schools, after-school programs, senior centers, shelters for the unhoused, soup kitchens, and transitional housing facilities. Last week KDC celebrated Earth Day, an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. This year’s Earth Day theme was “Invest in Our Planet.” On Earth Day, the KDC employees biked to work, carpooled, used reusable water bottles, and walked around the surrounding office buildings picking up trash. KDC delivered a 2,500 sf Chipotle ground-up project in Tucson, AZ in 16 weeks! The store features a Chipotlane, delivering mobile orders to customers via a drive-thru window. Community Foundation of Orange (CFO) is a non-profit organization that leads a passionate, unified effort to preserve and enhance our sense of community. Their motto of "Give Where You Live" is a spirited invitation to the residents and businesses of the Greater Orange Community to make a difference right where they live or work. The City of Orange has been home to KDC for over 25 years, and to show our support for the city, we’ve partnered with Community Foundation of Orange to help with their Orange County Community Yard Sign Project among other initiatives. Businesses or residents can purchase these signs to show their support for the City of Orange and CFO donates the money to Orange Home Grown, a nonprofit that brings locally grown, nutrient-dense, sustainable food to the Orange community. Orange Home Grown uses the money to purchase food from small family farms in Southern California that is donated to Waste Not OC Coalition, which creates meals to feed families in need throughout Orange County. KDC just completed this Starbucks in Stevenson Ranch, CA. This ground-up project’s highlights include solar features, 11 EV charging prep stations, and bio infiltration/pervious pavers to manage rainwater onsite. Our KDC Team renovated an existing 2,884 sf Starbucks in 14 days! The project included new casework and equipment, an extension of the existing hard-lid ceiling/soffit, and the addition of a new full height partition at the hot bar. Our Arizona Team delivered a 901 sf tenant improvement on the first floor of a multi-level mixed use building in downtown Tucson, AZ. This Starbucks Pickup store features a custom single order point / MOP service counter and wood cladding with custom metal trim accents throughout; there is no seating inside or outside. The Southern California KDC Team partnered with NAWIC Orange County to assist in the renovation of an apartment at the Thomas House Family Shelter. KDC provided the cabinet installation and fabrication/installation of the countertops. For more than 30-years, Thomas House has provided rent-free shelter, including food and supplies, for homeless families with children. In return, each parent is required to work full-time and save 80 percent of their income, enabling families to build their savings and learn essential life skills. As a result, in an average 12-month stay, families are able to save a minimum of 2 to 3 months’ expenses and transition to permanent housing of their own.
